Meet District Council
2007-09-13
IN an attempt to effect greater improvement in its service delivery record, the Office of the Executive Mayor of the Cape Winelands District Municipality will set one day a week aside to meet with residents.
A meeting to discuss future meetings will be held at the Cape Winelands District Municipality office at 194 Main Street, Paarl, on 8 October from 14:00 to 19:00.
Councillor Johnson says research by Government Communication showed that poor interaction between councillors and residents was often the reason for protests again poor service.
“That research showed that face to face interaction is the preferred manner in which residents want to communicate about service delivery with their respective councillors,” according to Councillor Johnson.
According to him the Executive Mayor and his Mayoral Committee members used to travel around the district weekly to meet with residents. However, he said in order to reach more people they decided to keep open one day in each of the next six weeks to hold meetings in the biggest towns of the five B-municipalities that comprise the district.
”This arrangement will allow us to speak with more residents, get to know more issues while at the same time get an opportunity to provide service delivery solutions to our people,” Councillor Johnson says.
The following session of meetings, venues and times will be determined after the first session. To arrange a meeting or for more information about the meetings, contact the Mayor’s Office at 023-348-2300.
