Rare burgundy for wine auction

SPECTACULAR and rare objects will come under the hammer of Stephan Welz in aid of the Nederburg Charity Trust at this year’s Nederburg auction on Saturday 29 September 29.
The Charity Auction will follow the main auction in the Johann Graue Hall, to be attended by over 1 200 people.
Amongst the highlights on offer are an 84-year-old Burgundy, a 1923 Vosne-Romanée, from the famous Dr Arthur Barolet Collection; a beaded designer ball gown created by fashion luminary Marianne Fassler; the opportunity to blend your own potstill brandy with a master distiller and brandymaker; and a line-up of 12 vintages of the famous noble late harvest wine, Nederburg Edelkeur.
Says auction manager Christine Joubert: “We have a collection of exceptional wine items, sporting memorabilia, art works, holidays in Lesotho, on game farms and along Route 62, as well as culinary experiences, designed to appeal to a broad-based audience.”
She says every one of the wine producers to have participated on all 33 annual wine auctions, have donated special wines. Apart from Nederburg, they are Groot Constantia, Simonsig, Overgaauw, Delheim and Chateau Libertas.
Wines have also been donated by Rustenberg, Le Riche, Saronsberg, Slanghoek and Boplaas (five ports, every one rated five stars by the John Platter South African Wine Guide).
Proceeds from these and other items will be distributed equally amongst the trust’s three beneficiaries, the Hospice Palliative Care Association of South Africa, Organ Donor Foundation and an AIDS-HIV-support NGO, Mothers2Mothers.
Last year’s charity auction raised over R322 000 for the three organisations.
