The Mayoral Cup junior and women’s tournaments start on 13 October at 09:00 at the Boy Louw sportsfields. Registration and draw will take place on the same day.
Councillor Thulani Kompela addressed the invitees on behalf of the executive mayor, Charmaine Manuel, stating that the Mayoral Cup is an important base for the development of soccer in the region and in the build-up to the Soccer World Cup in 2010.
The tournament also seeks to unite communities across the Drakenstein area to embrace each other's diversity.
Kompela also highlighted the role of youth and their involvement in soccer, saying that it was important that they show their seniors that they are truly future contenders for World Cup soccer.
