A LIMITED overs cricket tournament is set to take place at the Groot Drakenstein Games Club from 2 October to 23 November.
Altogether ten local primary schools will take part in the Rhodes u.11 Twenty20 competition which aims to develop cricket on grassroots level.
The series is modelled on the twenty-overs-a-side format which will ensure that everyone gets an opportunity to bat and bowl.
The tournament co-ordinator, Lynton Lackay, a primary school teacher at Pniel Primary, says participating schools will be divided into two groups of five with each team playing four matches.
The top teams in each group will then compete in a final to establish an overall winner.
Moos Nicholas, the manager of amateur cricket for the Boland Cricket Board, said that Rhodes u.11 T20 fits nicely into the programmes run by the provincial cricket body.
ôInitiatives like this is how we develop the game in the region,ö Nicholas explained.
Schools playing in Pool A will be Dhalabhule, Wes-Eind, Franschhoek, Groendal and Bridge House while Nonzami, Simondium, Pniel, PC Pietersen and Wemmershoek Primary Schools make up the teams in Pool B.
