LAST weekend Paarl Cricket Club was involved in two pre-season clashes against Greenpoint Tech and Rivertonians.

On Saturday Paarl locked horns with hosts Green Point on a fast green pitch.

The home team was sent in to bat first, but later complained about the irregular bounce achieved by the Paarl bowlers and refused to continue for fear of injuries.

Paarl’s captain, Ultalyn Ernstzen, decided that his players were in need of some batting practice either way.

The visitors scored 225/8 in their allotted 35 overs with Alfredo Adams (58, 6x4 and 4x6), Ernstzen (68*, 5x4 and 7x6) and Clint Philander (23*, 4x4 and 1x6) scoring the bulk of Paarl’s runs.

On Sunday, Paarl hosted Rivertonians in a 45-over match.

The Paarlites were sent in to bat first and were restricted to a defendable 228/5.

Adams was again amongst the top scorers with 30 runs from 31 balls which included three boundaries and two sixes.

Carlo Crotz (55*, 4x4 and 1x6), Lee-Roy Walters (48*, 2x4 and 1x6) and Lynal Jansen (32, 3x4 and 1x6) retired to give Paarl’s remaining batsmen some time in the middle.

The home side annihilated their opponents when they were bowled out for a mere 91 runs.

Paarl's main destroyers were Hilroy Paulse (6/6 in 5 overs) and Philander (2/4 in 4 overs).

Only two batsmen of Rivertonians managed to score more than 25 runs.

* Inclement weather put a damper on Paarl Cricket Club’s tour of the Southern Cape as they only managed to play one T20 match against Pacaltsdorp CC.

The home team managed to score 137/7 with Alfredo Adams (3/18 in 4 overs) being the leading wicket-taker for Paarl.

The visitors had an uphill battle during their innings and could only accumulate 120 runs for the loss of eight wickets before they ran out of overs.

Peter-John de Villiers (46, 6x4 and 1x6) was the main contributor with the bat for Paarl.
