Horse and Wine Festival
2007-10-11
A FESTIVAL with horses and wine will be staged at Nelson’s Creek Wine Estate north of Paarl from 19 to 21 October.
With the emphasis on the horse, there will be displays by numerous horse breeds as well as demonstrations of carriages and carts, and how these were made in a bygone era.
The event caters for every taste, with food and wine stalls as well as picnics accompanied by live music by leading musicians.
To commemorate the first journey from the Castle in October 1657 by Abraham Gabbema, a procession will move through historic Paarl on Thursday 18 October.
The parade will culminate at Nelson’s Creek, where the festival kicks off the next day, on Friday 19 October.
The three day celebration at the Estate will offer a host of activities for the whole family including displays of old time carriages, horse vaulting, stunt artists as well as a high jump competition.
From miniature horses to the spectacular cart horses will be on display.
Events include rides on ponies and donkey carts as well as displays of gymkana, trick riding and horse training.
