Paarl photographers tops
2007-10-11
JUNIOR photographers, all members of the Paarl Photographic Club, have closed the shutter on well established clubs by winning the national interclub photography competition.
The Paarl club was established “during the dark ages”, the members joke (in 2006 during the power failures in the Western Cape).
“Since then, we have grown from a small coffee table club, to one big family. To us the club is another part of our family rather than a place to compete at. We are very social,” says chairman Trevor Clift.
“If you are interested in photography, even if you only have a cellular phone with a camera, you are welcome. We will help you to get the most out of what you have and when ready, we will assist in making a decision as to what to purchase next.
“We encourage our members to take part in anything, from salons to competitions run by magazines.
"Many members have had photos published in magazines, newspapers and on the internet. Some have sold some of their work.” The Photographic Club arranges talks, demonstrations, workshops, discussions, competitions and exhibitions. The main focus is on digital photography.
Members meet on the first Thursday of each month, at the MBA building in Concordia Street, Paarl South. This is also competition evening, starting at 19:00.
A website serves as a communication method as well as free advertising method and opportunity for members to have their own gallery.
