Paarl CC wins derby
2007-10-11
THE Paarl Cricket Club started their season on a high note after convincing victories over Young Peoples at the Parys sports grounds last weekend.
Paarl won the toss and elected to bat, but found themselves in somewhat of a pickle on 62/3 after 25 overs.
Lynal Jansen (54, 6x4) and Carlo Crotz (57, 7x4), however, steadied the ship for Paarl and added 96 runs before Jansen lost his wicket. The home team suffered yet another mini-collapse and lost four wickets in as many overs with only six runs being added to their total.
Clint Philander (33*, 2x4 and 1x6) kept Paarl's tail-end wagging taking their total to 211/9 in the allotted 60 overs.
Javier Alexander (3/44) and Marquin Julies (2/42) were the visitors' best bowlers.
Young People's batsmen never looked comfortable against Paarl's bowling attack. Edwin Jacobs (39, 5x4) was the main contributor with the bat.
The home team's captain, Ultalyn Ernstzen (2/20 in 9), Lyndon Fredericks (2/29 in 15); Jansen (2/9 in 5,4) and Alfredo Adams (2/5 in 3) showed early form with the ball as Young Peoples were bowled out for a meager 79 runs in the 42nd over.
Paarl II beat their counterparts by five wickets, restricting the visitors to 202/8 in heir innings.
S Cuttings (105, 8x4 an 2x6) and H Barron (43, 1x4) shined with the bat. Paarl's bowlers were impressive with Wilbur Alexander (3/23 in 8) and David Clarke (3/18 in 6) being the main destroyers. The home-side lost only five wickets in reaching their target with Clarke (64, 6x4), Darryl Hendricks (32, 4x4), Phillip Adams (40, 2x4) and Hilton Solomon (47*, 2x4 and 2x6) securing a comfortable. Keenan Pick (4/41 in 11) was the visitors' best bowler.
