Wes-Eind off to great T20 start

2007-10-11

THE Rhodes u.11 T20 cricket development tournament commenced last week Tuesday with the first game between Dhalabuhle and Wes-Eind Primary Schools played at the Groot Drakenstein Games Club.

Playing in ideal weather conditions, Wes-Eind beat Dalabuhle by seven runs in the twenty-overs-a-side cricket competition.

After winning the toss Wes-Eind decided to bat and scored 34 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.

Eugene Arendse and Anthony Oliphant made good contributions, each scoring eight runs. For Dhalabuhle Pielo Ngwane showed great promise taking two wickets for only one run.

After drinks Dhalabuhle started their innings on the wrong foot losing two wickets in the first over to Tyrone Paul (2/2 from 2).

The middle-order batsmen steadied the ship for Dhalabuhle with some responsible batting which helped the team edge forward.

Bongani Zwape and Asanda Sidanga scored six and seven runs respectively.

Once Bongani was run out in the 16th over, the tail-enders offered little resistance.

The game scheduled for Wednesday between Nondzame and Simondium Primary Schools did not take place due to inclement weather and has been rescheduled for 24 October.

* There are ten Primary Schools playing in the development cricket initiative. Schools are divided into two pools of five, each team playing four games.

The winners of each pool will meet in the final on 23 November at the Groot Drakenstein Games Club.
