The Cup chase is on

THE second annual Mayoral Soccer Cup kicked off last Saturday at the Boy Louw and Mbekweni Sports Grounds.
Altogether sixteen games were played with each team anxious to make an impact on this year's tournament.
The emphasis this year is on fair-play and the first round of games passed without any hick-ups.
As expected, the competition was tougher than the granite of Paarl Mountain.
The more established clubs made their intentions clear, but some of the newer or smaller clubs also put their hands up.
The results after the first round is as follows: Saturday - Park United beat Ethiopian Strikers 4-1, Eleven Ideas beat Boland Warriors 3-1, City Killers drew 3-3 with Power Cosmos, Saints FC beat Greenhills 5-1, TK Lions beat Paarl Pirates 5-2, Paarl Soccer Club drew 2-2 with LA United, Young Ideas beat Juventus 4-1, DC Rangers drew 2-2 with Carterville, FC Athletico beat Paarl City 3-1, Young Africans beat Saron United 4-0, Newton United beat Young Juventus 5-0, African Jaguars drew 2-2 with Wellchester, Barcelona beat Victoria United 3-0, Mbekweni Cosmos beat Sea Birds 3-2, Mbekweni Sundowns beat Double V United 3-0 and Mbekweni Cosmos beat Azalaians FC 21-0.
The second round was played last night (Wednesday) and the competition will continue on Saturday and Sunday.
