A DESIGN student from Paarl caught the attention of inside fashionistas in and around Paarl.
To build his portfolio, Marvin-Craig Roman, a third year design student, launched his second collection.
To his own amazement, it was received favourably by the selected audience and the requests for his designs started escalating.
“With the recent emphasis on volume, I decided to revert back to basics and so my collection was inspired by nouveau minimalism,” says Roman.
This minimalist approach to fashion seemed to work its magic on the audience, because within days he had lined up various orders including a matric ball gown, two wedding gowns as well as his personal accomplishment: a dress for the J&B Met which will be held in January.
His passion for fashion runs deep as he has been designing dresses since he was ten years old. His big break came when he was 16 and was approached by a friend to design her matric ball dress.
From here, his career took off, and he received request after request to design clothing.
At the young age of 21, Marvin-Craig has devoted himself and his talent to help out within the community where possible.
As a high school student, he attended Klein Nederburg High, and his first social responsibility action was to sponsor a deserving student from his alma mater for her matric ball gown.
Roman will graduate from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) next month with a design diploma and already he has massive dreams for himself and his soon-to-be-started label, Roman Empire.
It would be wise to keep a look out for Marvin-Craig Roman.
