Paarl remains unbeaten

Paarl remains unbeaten

2007-10-25

ON Saturday Paarl Cricket Club's first team retained their unbeaten record in this year's Boland Premier 60-Over competition after thrashing Worcester United convincingly in their own backyard.

Paarl I lost the toss and was asked to bat first, but a smashing innings by Carlo Krotz (107*, 11x4) got the visitors off to a flying start.

Krotz was well supported by Lynal Jansen (61, 5x4) and Alfredo Adams added (26, 4x4 and 1x6).

Worcester's batsmen struggled against the visitors' bowling attack.
Clint Philander (3/35), Hilroy Paulse (2/56) and Alfredo Adams (4/36) restricted the home side to 144/10 in 42 overs to ensure a comfortable victory by 96 runs.

Paarl II also continued their winning performance with a massive 252-run victory at the Parys Sports Grounds after scoring 336/6.

The Paarlites got off to a slow start, but a solid 153-run partnership by Courtley Pharaoh (124, 7x4 and 3x6) and Faghrie Jacobs (69, 9x4) put the home team in the driving seat.

Hilton Solomon (62, 7x4 and 4x6) and Randall Groenewald (24, 3x4 and 1x6) caused further headaches for the visiting bowlers.

Worcester's batsmen had no answer to Paarl's bowling attack with Groenewald (5/40) and Graham Adams (4/17) securing a comfortable victory.
Paarl III beat Paarl East III by two wickets at Allandale.

Paarl East was restricted to 140 runs, but had difficulty taming the visitors' batting order.

Eugene Crotz (27, 2x4), Darryl Adams (25, 2x4) and Lee-Shane Sampson (20, 4x4) ensured the victory for Paarl.

Bjorn Hollenbach (2/29) and J Green (2/6) were the home side's best bowlers.

* The match between Paarl IV and Klapmuts did not take place on Saturday as it was decided the playing surface was unfit for cricket.
After closer inspection it was noticed that the pitch was not prepared by the staff of the Drakenstein Municipality.

As the local authorities are in possession of their league program for the 2007/8 season, this incident was considered unacceptable.

On Saturday Paarl I and II will play away-games against Paarl East. The third team will take on Touws River Cricket Club at Parys while the 4th team will travel to Wellington Cricket Club.

This club's next fundraiser will take place on 3 November whith seafood platters (fried hake, calamari and garlic mussels with a choice of chips or savoury rice) on sale at the clubhouse.

Tickets are R40 and available from Exco-members.
