Shocked by traffic official
2007-10-25
I WAS so shocked by the actions of a traffic officer last week, that I feel compelled to write this letter.
On Thursday 18 October, I was on my way to Dischem in Lady Grey Street. Between this shop and the traffic light cars often park on the yellow line.
This specific afternoon, at 16:40 to be precise, I witnessed a traffic vehicle (CJ 65648) stopping behind a car which was parked on the yellow line.
I thought the officer was stopping to fine the offender, but instead he crossed the road and started writing a ticket for a flashy Mercedez-Benz sports car which was parked outside Edgars.
This vehicle was in a legal parking bay, but perhaps slightly far from the pavement. It was however not obstructing any traffic whatsoever.
Hereafter, the officer casually crossed the road, got into his car and off he went, leaving the actual offender on the yellow line untouched.
To me this is a blatant example of discrimination. The vehicle which was parked on the yellow line was a beat-up old Toyota, thus, the flashy sportscar gets fined.
Are we not all supposed to be equal in the eye of the law?
