THE dreams of young netball players in Mbekweni became a reality last week when they were equipped with netbal outfits, shoes and a netball court with the help of local businesses.
The Boland netball player Martie Groenewald equipped them with team building and drive.
The initiator of the project to keep these young girls from the streets and shebeens, Thandi Matholengwe, started training the girls two years ago.
They had no outfits or netball court.
She now works at the Be-Part research centre in Mbekweni, who helped to obtain funding for the teams and the construction of a netball court.
They invite teams to challenge them for a game.
There is a second team that needs netball outfits and they also struggle with transport costs.
