LOCAL world champion wheelchair athlete Ernst van Dyk is seeking legal advice after being dealt another severe blow by the national carrier, South African Airways.

Van Dyk was due to participate in the New York City Marathon last Sunday, but on arrival in New York it was discovered that the custom-built wheelchair with which he races was not on board.

According to van Dyk this latest incident will be a huge financial setback on his earnings as he was a favourite to win his category of this prestigious event.

Van Dyk also stands to lose sponsorships because he was unable to fulfill his contractual obligations this year.

This is not the first time that SAA has been unable to deliver.

In June the airline also lost his wheelchair and this has thus far cost van Dyk an estimated 30% of his annual earnings.

This latest loss has prompted van Dyk to seriously consider legal action due to further loss of earnings.

The SAA has announced that they will compensate van Dyk by offering him a return ticket to any destination in the world.
