Must we write off SA?
2007-11-08
I WAS born in South Africa (Wellington), and I moved to Austria 13 years ago. I am a big soccer fan, and I am glad that South Africa will be hosting the soccer World Cup in 2010.
All my friends here in Austria want to know if South Africa will be able to cope with this situation.
Seeing that the criminal situation in our country is not the best, I would like to know how we are going to cope with all this.
What does public transport look like? Are our trains safe, for the thousands and thousands of tourists who will be travelling to our country.
How do we know that people will be safe while travelling from one city to the other, supporting their teams?.
What about all the “Bergies” and the streetchildren standing on the roads begging for money. Will something be done about this before 2010?
Will all the soccer stadiums be finished by that time?
If anyone could give me a positive answer on all of this, I would be able to give answers to all the questions my friends are asking me.
I hope from my heart that the WC 2010 will be a success, and that we can show the world that South Africa is still a country not to be written off.
