THE Paarl Cricket Club’s batsmen struggled with the playing conditions when they were restricted to 113 (all out) by Malmesbury at the Parys Sports Grounds on Saturday.
Clint Philander (26, 3x4) and Hein Adonis (22, 3x4) showed some resistance for Paarl, but the visitors’ Willem Bruintjies (4/39) caused havoc amongst the home side’s batting order.
What looked like an easy win for the visitors ended in disaster as Worcester succumbed to the seventeen-year-old Clayton August (3/13) and Alfredo Adams (3/11) who spearheaded Paarl’s fight-back with the ball.
Malmesbury was all out for a paltry 79 runs giving Paarl a much needed win by 34 runs to stay in contention for a place in the final.
Although Paarl managed a winning draw against GMT Paarl East on Sunday, unfortunately it was not enough to secure the necessary points for a spot in the final.
Paarl II (302/7) drew against Malmesbury II (169/9) in an away game on Saturday to make sure of a place in the final on 2 December.
Dave Clarke (118, 8x4) and Kurt Martin (53, 3x4) were Paarl’s main contributors with the bat.
The bowling efforts of Rohan Goetham (3/23) and Cameron Cupido (4/38) were not enough to ensure a win for Paarl.
Paarl IV (154 all out) lost to Kromco (155/3) at Parys C by four wickets.
Hugh Arendse (36, 3x4 and 1x6) and Zahier Nackerdien (41, 2x4 and 1x6) helped the home side to a respectable score. The visitors scored the winning runs in the 32nd over. Garron Arendse (3/39) was the home side’s best bowler
