Mahotella in Paarl soon

2007-11-22

THE famous music group, the Mahotella Queens, will be performing in the Mbekweni community hall on Friday evening 30 November at 19:00. They will be accompanied by the Makhona-Tsohle band.

The show also features Izintombi, Zesimanje Manje, Yadah Praise (Jika), a gospel musical dance extravaganza, and trumpeter Ndumiso Nyovane. Tickets are R50.

Although the leader of Mahotella Queens, Mahlatini, passed away in 1999, Mahotella Queens are still a household name in the music industry. They are also performing in Worcester and elsewhere in the Western Cape during this tour.

The three lead singers are Hilda Tloubatla, Nobesuthu Mbadu and Mildred Mangxola, who have been singing, dancing and selling out shows worldwide.

Along with the late, great Mahlatini they invented Mbaqanga, an explosive sound which changed the course of music in South Africa.

With the warmth of captivating songs and energetic dance routines, they carved their path through the country from the 1960’s to today, with a new inspirational trend.

On their latest release they blend hymns with touches of marabi, soul, jazz and of course mbaqanga.
