Fun and laughter at Old Mill

2007-11-22

FOR the next two week theatre lovers can enjoy fun and laughter at the Old Mill Theatre in Paarl.

* Tonight at 20:00 will the first joint venture, a film called Steorra- When the curtains falls, by directors Desmond Denton and Greg Lawson, leave audiences with the awareness that in life it’s not what we achieve, but what we leave behind that ultimately matters.

The film has a South African flavour and will take the audience on an emotional journey through the lives of four very different individuals, from the Cape Flats to Camps Bay, who unintentionally alter the course of each other’s lives during their preparation for a Christmas stage production.

This is not a typical Christmas story or film style and will appeal to film lovers of various cultures and religions who enjoy a bit more substance around the humour and intrigue of a predictable story-line. Tickets are R60.

* Saturday at 20:00 singer Lize Beekman will entertain the audience.

Lize is one of South Africa’s most acclaimed songwriters. Her songs have been recorded by a wide range of performers like Laurika Rauch, Amanda Strydom, Matthys Roets, Theuns Jordaan, Elzabé Zietsman, Anke (Idol) and Coenie de Villiers amongst others.

Beekman’s song “’n Sonneblom uit Bethlehem” was nominated as Song of the Year during the GMT Awards in 2002. Tickets are R80.

* Monday at 20:00 the group, ReSoulution, will entertain the audience with their passion for their art; “creating music that brings people together”.

Resoulution with their five dynamic artistic backgrounds, are set on making an everlasting contribution to the SA music scene and beyond.

Inspired by early rock and funk and driven by “the new” the style should rather be heard than described, for now.

The group consist of Cecile du Preez, Marko Petrovski, Stef Nortje, Sasha Spasovski and Jan Krynauw.

Tickets are R80.

Friday 30 November at 20:00 is the Tribute to Eric Clapton Old Mill Fundraiser with Ian Visser and Peter Vanne.

The Eric Clapton tribute show has evolved from a duo to a four piece band growing with Mike Hartung and Derrick Parkins. Mike is the bassist and vocalist for the Paarl band ‘the Itch’. Derrick is the drummer for local band Magnum 4, who have been gigging in and around Cape area for over 20years.
