TWO men have been arrested after the brutal rape of a sixty-four-year-old woman in broad daylight in her house on a farm near Windmeul.

The woman was watching television on Thursday afternoon at approximately 13:00 when the men gained access to the house and overpowered her.

She was brutally raped by one of the men, while the other one restrained her. The men fled with various household items.

The traumatised woman who had been beaten and strangled was treated at Paarl hospital.

An intensive manhunt was launched for the suspects and on Friday alert police officers noticed suspicious looking men amongst the bushes near the Berg River in Paarl North.

When they approached the men they fled, but one of the suspects was apprehended. He was found in possession of goods which had been stolen that very afternoon from a house in Paarl North.

The suspect , Daniel Pretorius of Smartie Town, was taken to the Paarl police station and photographed, and this is when his identity was matched with the identikit of one of the previous day’s rape suspects.

He then confessed that he and his brother, Christofer, were involvement in the crime.

They appeared in the Paarl magistrate’s court on Monday.

The rape victim’s husband has applauded the police’s handling of the case, especially insp Deon Nicholas, and said that due to the sensitive and compassionate manner in which his wife was treated, she has been able to mentally survive the attack.
