Lights on for Festival

THE annual Symphony of Lights will brighten Paarl on Friday evening with the switching on of the Christmas Lights in Lady Grey Street, and continue on Saturday and Sunday evening. On Friday and Saturday the programme starts at 19:00 with a performance by the Royal Stars Christmas Band. Among the artists performing on Friday are Salome (21:30), Ashleigh Booysen, Michael D, Kurt, the dance group Essentials and the band Afro-D-Ziac. On Friday evening Mayor Charmaine Manuel will address the festival at 20:45 and the official “Switching On” of the lights will follow at 21:00. Performing on Saturday evening are Gemini.com, former idol Byron D (19:45), Shelley Gordon, Vaughan, Siyaya , Morné Meyer Band and the popular Bala Brothers (21:30). On both evenings Juanita Stander and Ockert Brits will practice their vaults from 19:00 on Patriot Square. They will also be in action on Saturday morning from 09:00 to 12:00. On Sunday night the Carols by Candlelight start at 18:00 with scripture reading by Dr Dries Erwee. Performers include a combined choir and Marco’s Band, Ayford Brothers, Intsikelelo Group and Ashleigh Booysen, Mighty Joyous Singers and Jo-Ann Lekay.
