ON Saturday the first team of Paarl Cricket Club had an uphill battle to overcome the deadly Malmesbury bowling attack for a hard-worked 84-run victory.
Paarl lost seven batsmen with their score on 62 and looked to be in serious trouble.
Paarl’s batsmen never looked comfortable and scoring 100 runs seemed to be well out of their reach.
Kurt Martin (35, 2x4) and Clint Philander (24, 1x4) added some valuable runs to help Paarl post a more respectable total of 150.
Luckily Philander (5/13) and Lyndon Fredericks (2/26) came to the rescue of their team when they dismissed Malmesbury for a sad 66 runs to keep the visitors on course for a place in the play-offs.
Paarl III (165 all out) was beaten by 29 runs against Touws River (194 all out) in Touws River.
Paarl IV (193 all out) lost by nine wickets against Coronations (194/1) at Parys Sports Ground.
* On Saturday the Paarl Cricket Club I and II are playing against Paarl East at New Orleans and Parys respectively.
