BLENDED to win awards, KWV South Africa has launched the latest addition to its already extensive brandy portfolio, KWV 15 Year Old.
Although only available in the South African market from this month, KWV 15 Year Old has already collected its first international award.
The Distell Trophy for the Best Worldwide Brandy was handed to chief brandy master, Kobus Gelderblom, at the prestigious International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) held in London on 6 November this year.
The idea to create an additional brandy, one that would win awards, came about after KWV felt that the gap between the KWV 10 and 20 Year Old brandies was too big and “somebody was missing in the family”.
It will also raise the equity of the KWV Brandy brands through its superior intrinsic quality.
“KWV 15 Year Old is a strong contender for top place in our brandy portfolio,” says senior brand manager for KWV’s brandy portfolio, Thandisizwe Ncalu.
“We already have a strong following for our Three, Five, Ten and Twenty Year Old brandies and we’re anticipating a similar reaction to this brandy.”
KWV 15 Year Old brandy is a pure double distilled pot still brandy, matured in selected French oak barrels for at least 15 years. The blend consists of four different batches of 300 litre oak barrels 15 years or older.
