THE new development cycling team, Neotel, closed out their season on a high note with a superb victory in Die Burger Cycling Tour in Stellenbosch on Sunday.
The countries best cyclists and teams contested the season-finale over a distance of 101km with aproximately 6000 participants entered.
The race started in Stellenbosch, taking cyclists over the steap Helshoogte Pass to Paarl and Wellington, turning back to Stellenbosch for the final stretch.
Rabie used his local knowledge and sprinting prowess to out-gun his competitors to take the first place in a closely contested race.
Local cycling star, Garth Thomas, finished fourth overall, 39 seconds off the pace.
Another young, promising local rider, Marius Bester (17) did extremely well.
Bester took part in the Elite Open category and represented Paarl Cycling Club.
He managed to keep up with the pace set by the more professional and experienced campaigners to finish 13th overall.
This young rider was also the first junior to complete the race.
Bester seems to have a bright future ahead of him as he was crowned SA u.16 chamion two years ago.
* Neotel Rhadsport and Neotel Yorkshire Cycling Clubs will host two track cycling events at Faure Street Stadium on 22 and 29 December respectively.
