THE SA Municipal Workers Union (Samwu) is taking the Drakenstein Municipality to arbitration, after an “unfair” appointment of a housing manager at the Paarl East housing office.
The local chairperson for Samwu, Cupido Jacobs, admitted that the union is not satisfied with the way the appointment was done. Both candidates are experienced employees of the Municipality’s housing department.
“In the first round of interviews, one candidate (Ursula Johannesson) scored 79 points and the other candidate (Norman Konjwayo) scored 78 points, but afterwards it was announced by the Municipal Manager that the scores were equal.
“During the second round of interviews Konjwayo beat Johannesson by 67 to 63 points.”
The scoring at the interviews were done by David Delaney (acting head of planning), Dr Sidima Kabanyane (municipal manager) and Khaya Mrali (head of corporate services).
“The union was misled with the points at the first round, therefore Samwu is going to take this to arbitration,” Jacobs said.
