HIS tiny body shivers. His eyes lift towards his caretakers sadly, uncomprehending.
The Jack Russell has no idea why he is being confined to a cage in the recuperating room of the Market Street veterinary clinic.
He might recall the fear and pain when the car struck him in Noorder Paarl on Saturday night, but today he is more bewildered than sore.
Tammy Simons and her father drove along Main Street at 19:00 on Saturday evening when she saw a man standing next to an obviously injured dog on the pavement.
“We rolled the dog in a blanket and took him to the clinic where we telephoned the emergency veterinarian,” a concerned Tammy said.
With a possible front leg fracture and chest bruising, the dog was given pain killers and kept for the night.
Yesterday little Jack was still at the clinic. Neither Paarl nor Wellington SPCA has had any enquiries regarding a missing dog.
The surgeons will take X-rays (which will cost R280) and operate (at approximately R2 000) once the owner has been traced.
Nothing is known about the Jack Russell other than it is white with brindle spots, about five years old and not castrated.
“The dog’s owners might be on holiday,” Tammy said, while cuddling the dog on his blanket in a cage at the clinic.
