FOUR local learners from New Orleans Secondary and La Rochelle Girls’ High recently teamed up to represent Germany in the Model United Nations Debating Conference held at Parliament in Cape Town.

The team members were Keith Lewis and Prudence Present of New Orleans Se-condary, and Christiane Badenhorst and Raphaela Böhmer from La Rochelle Girls’ High School.

After intense preparation for this year’s provincial topic – Internet Freedom and the Role of the United Nations – their hard work paid off when they won this leg of the competition.

They will now represent Western Cape against the other eight provinces, as well as teams from Africa and abroad in the SAMUN Cape Town International Conference from 2 to 24 October, where they participate in two UN General Assembly-style debates over four days.

The team from the winning South African province, as well as one representative selected from each of the other eight South African provinces, is given the incredible opportunity to participate in the international Model United Nations Conference in the USA and will visit the United Nations’ headquarters in New York.
