PROJECT CO-ORDINATOR

Working in partnership with The Hope Through Action Foundation, SCORE seeks a Project Co-ordinator to lead an innovative new project in Mbekweni, Paarl.

The Hope Through Action Foundation, and its partner UK charity, Hope Through Action are organisations dedicated to improving the lives of young people in difficult circumstances using sport providing a means to them to increase their physical fitness, improve their self-esteem, increase their awareness of health issues, develop positive life skills and increase their employability.

SCORE is a leading NGO working in the field of sport and development in Southern Africa, using sport as a tool to achieve individual empowerment and to engage and strengthen communities.

The Hope Through Action Foundation is building an indoor sports facility in the community of Mbekweni and working with SCORE to develop sustainable sports and development programs centred at the facility.

Sport, health and education projects will reach out to nearby schools, youth and the broader community. A dynamic and passionate project co-ordinator with a sports background is required to realise the potential this project offers at this exciting time for sport in South Africa.

Responsibilities:

The Co-ordinator will ensure that use of the sports centre is maximised to the benefit of the local young people.

The position will be responsible for project co-ordination and implementation ensuring that goals are achieved as per current proposals and plans, including the following: Community consultation and community sport planning and evaluation processes; Establishing and co-ordinating activity and training programs; Facilitation of sports leadership, coaching, and life skills courses/workshops and supporting trainees; Organising special events and activities; Building and maintaining relationships with project stakeholders and partners, and actively seeking to build a local support network for the centre; Ongoing project assessment, monitoring and troubleshooting; Project budget control, administration and reporting.

You will also be required to sign and abide by SCORE's child protection policy.

Qualifications Required:

Relevant degree or diploma; 3-5 years' experience in project/programme management; A sound understanding of development processes, with hands-on experience working at community level with sports and/or development programs and experience using sport as a development tool; Experience working with youth; Proven training and facilitation skills - formal certification in training/facilitation preferred; Excellent communication and administration skills; Computer literacy; Driver’s licence.
