FRANSCHHOEK FM RADIO 87.6 Vacancies Franschhoek FM 87.6 community radio will go on air on August 1st. The following positions are available and applications are invited. Affirmative action and gender sensitivity is practiced. Proficiency in English or Afrikaans or isiXhosa (or more than one language) is required. 1. Sound Engineer The sound engineer will be responsible for a good and constant broadcast signal by liaising with the transmitter agency, and will also maintain the equipment in the broadcast and production studios. He/she must be able to edit and master copy recorded programmes and record productions in the sound studio. A knowledge of computers and an ability to maintain all computer equipment in the station is essential. Training is available for persons who already have some experience in this field. 2. Journalist The journalist is responsible for the content of the daily news bulletins in 3 languages, with the help of translators. He/she might read the bulletins or work with news presenters. He/she will set up a relationship with the local newspapers for exchange of content and stories and create relationships with local newsmakers like the police forum, the municipality etc. for news input. Some reporting or journalistic experience is necessary, especially in radio or TV. 3. Programme Manager The programme manager will devise appropriate programmes that meet the needs of all the communities in the FH FM footprint and allocate appropriate time to specific programmes to meet the needs of all communities in the FH FM footprint. He/she will liaise with Board members and opinion leaders in the community to determine programme needs and recruit freelance producers with original ideas. Some radio or TV experience is essential for this post. 4. Office Manager and Reception The office manager acts as assistant to the Station Manager and must have secretarial and filing skills. Experience in handling salaries, UIF and medical aid is important. She/he must have a pleasant personality and a good telephone manner. 5. Freelancers There will be paid vacancies for freelance journalists, producers and music presenters. 6. Volunteers Also opportunities for volunteers speaking Afrikaans, English and isiXhosa to assist in all departments while receiving training.
