THE internationally acclaimed sculptor, Dylan Lewis, will be the first guest speaker at the 2008 monthly meetings of the Stellenbosch Arts Association.
The Arts Association meeting takes place on 20 February at the US Sasol Art Museum at 18:30.
Although Lewis is particularly famous for his animal sculptures, he has also received enthusiastic critiques for his female figure.
Last year in July Lewis set the international community abuzz at the Christie’s Art Auction in London when his sculptures of leopards and a black rhino fetched high prices.
Cats are his muse and his métier is how Dylan Lewis describes his love for the cat family and especially leopards.
The work he did on leopards at Leopard’s Creek at the behest of Johann Rupert, was published in ‘The Leopards of Leopards Creek” and his book “Forces of Nature” became a best seller.
At the Arts Association meeting Lewis will show visuals of his work and also discuss his methodology in creating sculptures, which have been noted for the energy and the wild life effect they exude.
The meeting is open to the public at R20 per person, while members of the association can renew their membership fee: R70 a head, R100 for a couple and R30 for students.
