WHAT do Paarl Print and the Cape Epic have in common?

Paarl Print may cover much more distance in terms of paper printed over nine days than the 900km cycled in the Epic from Knysna to Somerset West, yet both include a combination of people skills and require strong commitment as well as passion for what you do to achieve success.

For the 2008 event starting on Saturday, Paarl Media is sponsoring Paarl Print’s Chris Smit, who will be riding under the banner of the Paarl Media leapfrog learning centre.

This CSI initiative will provide desperately needed learning, library and computer resources at the Miqlat Hope Centre in Paarl East. This will assist a community with one of the highest percentage of illiteracy in the Western Cape, leapfrog over education obstacles to success.

Chris shows the same dedication and exceptional performance in his work as foreman at Paarl Print as he does in his cycling.

He finished second and third in the Trans Baviaans 230km race two years in a row and his team finished 18th overall in the 2007 Epic. This year, he will be partnering with fourth time Epic competitor, Dennis du Toit from Huguenot Cycles.

“My goal is to finish in the top 20 under 37 hours,” says Chris. Keep track of Chris’s team’s progress on www.cape-epic.co.za.

In support of this project, Paarl Print has committed a further R10 000 for the setting up of the computer server room for the planned leapfrog learning facility at the Miqlat Hope Centre.

Paarl Print would like to invite all their clients and suppliers to rise to the challenge of bringing hope to the community through donations of any of the following: food, electricity, ADSL lines and/or 3G cards, air conditioners, ceilingfans, computers, printers, modems, paper and ink, solar panels, hot water cylinders, stack chairs, desks, desk chairs, light-fittings, exercise mats, exercise balls, table tennis equipment, shade nets, writing pads and pens, bathroom appliances, kitchen appliances, pots and pans, cutlery and crockery, magazine subscriptions, financial sponsorship of supervisory staff, members, volunteer teachers/instructors (for gym, play ball, dancing, internet, education, life skills) and toys.
