It's all cheese at festival
2008-04-30
TRAFFIC congestion and crowds could not dampen the spirit of the annual Cheese Festival which was held at Bien Donné this past weekend. By Monday afternoon more than 30 000 people had passed through the festival gates to savour the 320 cheeses which were on exhibition, devouring more than 17 tons of cheese. Although cheese is the main attraction of the festival, many other delicacies such as wines, olives and breads were also readily available. This year boasted two demonstration kitchens, where chefs, celebrities and wine experts demonstrated the art of cooking with cheese. Organiser Johan Ehlers said that after seven years the Cheese Festival was still going from strength to strength. “This goes to show that there is huge enthusiasm about cheese and the public is especially excited about new products which enter the market. “The festival has exceeded all expectations and we are confident that visitors had a truly wonderful time. “It is now official that the Cheese Festival is one of the biggest festivals in the country which boasts the most exhibitors.” Ehlers stipulated that due to traffic and ticket problems which occurred this year, tickets will only be available from Computicket next year, and not at the gate. But apart from this, it was all cheese at the festival - lots and lots of cheese.
