Let the battle against drugs begin

Let the battle against drugs begin

"A HUGE gap has been left in the community, after the only drug rehabilitation centre in the area was forced to close its doors due to financial difficulty.”

But, says Ernest Johannes, principal of Dalweide Primary, he is determined to establish a similar facility.

Johannes has for years worked with children from many walks of life and has seen the problem of drug abuse develop.

“It is no secret that the Drakenstein area is plagued with Tik abuse, and this worsens by the year.”

He is thus making it his personal mission to establish a rehabilitation centre which will reach out to all in need.

He has put together an army of consultants, consisting of various masterminds in the field of education, religion and medicine, to assist with getting the project off the ground.

Amongst others, magistrate Patrick Ross, Johnny van der Merwe of Correctional Services, ds Graham Taff, pastoor Eric Hofmeyer, Bernard Cupido of Community Development and principal Brian Fortuin, are all queuing up to lend a hand.

“The first step is to get suitable premises, and currently we are negotiating with a private land- owner, as well as the municipality, for this purpose.

“We have ample professionals who are standing in line to assist with a rehab centre, but we first have to get the necessaties in place, and are hoping that the municipality gets involved as well.”

Anybody who has suggestions or would like to get involved in the project, can contact Johannes at 021-868-1901.
