Horse topped with honey and mustard

HOW about a taste of horse, with a topping of Honey and Mustard? That’s what you can sample when you visit Katrien Steytler’s stables on Diemersfontein Estate outside Wellington. During the extended winter months, Honey and her friend Mustard decided that the broad back of Katrien’s 500kg gelding, Prince, was just the seat for them. With green pastures beckoning, Prince does not care much for day time cat naps on his back. At night however, he seems to regard the tri- coloured calico cats as a welcome blanket against the evening chill. Groom, Happy Zonke, could not believe his eyes when he arrived at the stables one cold winter morning, to find the pair of cats cuddling on Prince’s back. Should you dabble in a touch of horse whispering, Prince will no doubt tell you he now thinks he’s the cat’s whiskers, while Honey and Mustard will purr that they much prefer a royal back to a hot tin roof.
