A RETIRED Paarl principal, Chris Jacobs (83), died on Tuesday morning after a short illness.

He qualified as a woodwork teacher at the Athlone Institute in Paarl and served at various local schools including Zion DRC, Holy Trinity, Athlone Institute and Noorder-Paarl High School.

He was then seconded to Klein Nederburg Secondary School as vice-principal and ended his career at Ronwe Primary School as principal.

He was active in the community and served as president of the Paarl Sports Union, and in the Premier Horticultural Society for 50 years. He was councillor and church warden of his congregation for many years.

The funeral will be held at the Holy Trinity Church on Saturday at 10:00.

He is survived by three children (Beryl, Gail and Kay) and four grandchildren.
