Rev up for Blanket Run
2009-04-23
MOTOR cycle enthusiasts can rev up their engines in preparation for this weekend’s annual Blanket Run. This will be the fourth year in which this charity event is being held locally, and more than 2000 motor cycles are expected to descend upon Mayerskraal on the R45, between Paarl and Wellington. Last year almost a thousand blankets were donated during the blanket run, but Malan is sure that this year will exceed all expectations. Those interested in taking part in this good cause, can meet in the parking area of Paarl Mall on Sunday at 10:00. Hereafter the motor cycle cavalcade will head for Wellington, each hopefully armed with a woolly blanket donation. Scooters are also welcome to join in. Once at Mayerskraal, a buffet breakfast will be served. But this event is not only focused at motor cycle enthusiasts. It is a family affair, whether you have a motorbike or not. There will be mini-golf and a driving range as well as a music stage where novice or experienced pop stars can strut their stuff (they will have to bring their own backtracks). Food and refreshments will be on sale all day. An array of weird and wonderful cars will also be on display. A donation of a blanket gives you free entry, otherwise you will have to fork out R40. Blankets go to Silwerkruin, Monte Christo Ministries and Lentegeur Psyciatric Home.
