Help to retain grand piano in Franschhoek

Help to retain grand piano in Franschhoek

2009-07-23

THE Dutch Reformed Church (DRC) in Franschhoek needs your help to retain the grand piano that was on loan to them for six years by Christopher Duigan.

In the warm spirit of his musical commitment, Christopher has agreed to give the church time to raise money to keep this tremendous asset in the village.

A new piano of this quality, a 7ft Kawai grand suitable for concert performances, would cost R270 000 and to hire such a piano would incur delivery and setting-up costs starting at R8 000 per session. This alone would make arranging concerts very expensive.

The piano is valued at R150 000 and the idea is to sell the 88 keys for R1 750 each, which will raise enough money to keep and insure the piano.

Individuals, families, local shops and businesses can choose a key to which their name will be attached on a commemorative plaque which will be displayed in the church.

When the piano is the property of the DRC, it will be available free for Christopher’s concerts and for hire for other concerts, weddings and services.

Donors will qualify for ten complimentary tickets per key to concerts at the church for the next two years, which will effectively offset around half of the cost. They will also be informed about upcoming music events.

Donations, pledges and all enquiries can be made with Karen Minnaar at 021-876-2431.
