THE Asics Wellington Gravel Travel mountain-bike event takes place at Diemersfontein Wine and Country Estate on 15 August.

The event is now in its second year after a highly successful first event last year.

As this is such a popular event, and it is expected to grow considerably, the entries are limiting to 1 200 riders. This is to ensure that the trail is not too crowded and riders can enjoy their ride through the scenic wine farms of Wellington.

The route boasts new single track farm roads and jeep tracks heading from Diemersfontein, through the vineyards and farms, crossing Bainskloof pass and heading towards Groenberg Mountain.

To make the event more exciting, they have included additional single track for the adrenaline junkies. The 60km route (R90 for PPA members and R110 for non-members) will be challenging, but within reach of the fit rider.

The 30km route (R20/R30 non-members) is similarly exciting, but you will spend less time on the saddle. This will give you more time to enjoy the food and wine marquee at the finish. For more information visit www.graveltravel.co.za before 13 August.
