FEW Paarlites know that Big City Life, the three-year-old colt that won the recent Vodacom Durban July horse race, is from this neighbourhood.

He was born and bred at the Woodhill Racing Estate in the Perdeberg region near Windmeul.

Big City Life was bred by his trainer Glen Kotzen’s mother-in-law Judy Wintle and was named by Kotzen’s son Kuyan (15).

And his inspiration? Big City Life was a popular song at the time.

Kotzen is one of the five co-owners of this winning racehorse. He also cemented his reputation as top trainer later in the day by winning a second grade one race, the Garden Provence Stakes, with Lady Windermere.

Said a proud Kotzen, “He has now achieved what Dynasty did, by winning the KZN Guineas, the Daily News and the July.

“Not to mention the Grade 1 Cape Derby.

“As a 3-year-old, what more can you do
