THE Cape Winelands District Municipality (CWDM) was rated fourth out of 46 district municipalities in the recent Empowerdex Services Delivery Index (Munidex).

The score was evaluated on five service delivery factors (water, sanitation, housing, electricity and waste removal).

The status index was based on the current proportion of the households that have access to particular services while the improvement index was based on the percentage change of the households with access to particular services.

CWDM has enjoyed six years of unqualified audits, received the Vuna Award for best district municipality in the Western Province, the award for the best Fire Service training in SADEC, the best housing award (for Lanquedoc) and was the first municipality to institute a Rural and Social Development Directorate.

CWDM has been acknowledged by the Department of Co-operative Governance for its role in District Economic Development; Planning and Facilitation and being a model for sustainable development.
