Well-known Paarlite passes away

A WELL-KNOWN Paarlite who dedicated her life to nursing, Alfreda Blanckenberg (83), died on Sunday in the frail care section of Huis Vergenoegd. Blanckenberg, who never married, worked as a nurse and midwife at Paarl Hospital for her entire working life, retiring as matron in 1991. She was also a stalwart in the Holy Trinity Anglican Congregation. She was the granddaughter of Alf Devine, who was mayor of Paarl for many years. Her family home was in Main Street, Paarl South (today the Oak Tree Lodge). She is survived by her brother, John, who lives in Johannesburg, his children and grandchildren.
