Shopkeeper paralysed after shooting

AN Ethiopian national who was recently shot at point-blank range while walking in a street in Mbekweni, has been left paralysed from the waist down. The incident took place on Saturday 14 January in Mbongweni Street, when Elyes Hassan (31) was shot by unknow men. He was taken to Paarl Hospital, from where he was transferred to Tygerberg Hospital due to the severity of his injury. It has since been established that Hassan is now paralysed from the waist down due to a bullet having penetrated his spine. No arrests have been made and eyewitnesses are asked to contact Detective Warrant Officer Hilton Green of the Mbekweni police station on 076-071-1949. All information will be treated confidentially.
