Arrange for special votes for municipal elections
2011-04-21
FOR the first time in a municipal election, voters will be able to cast a special vote beforehand, if they are unable to vote on 18 May. The application process for special votes for the 2011 municipal elections opened on Friday 15 April and will run until Wednesday 3 May at 17:00. You have to apply for a special vote in person at your local Municipal Electoral Officer or someone else can also submit your application on your behalf. Those applicants who cannot vote on 18 May will cast their special votes on Monday 16 May between 08:00 and 17:00 at the voting station in the voting district where they are registered. Those who are physically infirm or disabled will be visited by IEC staff on 16 or 17 May at home. Please remember that you have to vote in the voting district where you are registered. The MEC1 form (Appendix 25) is available from the Drakenstein Electoral Office at the Paarl Town Hall or on the IEC website at www.elections.org.za. For more information, call the IEC toll free on 0800 11 8000 or the local office on 021-872-8213.
