ABOUT 50 people attended the ward meeting called in Ward 16 in Mbekweni, by Councillor Victor Mbubu, last week, his first ward meeting after the recent elections.

Ward16 had been hit by the wave of protests before the elections with some of the residents calling for the head of Mbubu.

Mbubu pointed out the dangers faced by shack dwellers who live next to the railway line. Some are to be accommodated in the new Drommedaris housing project.

“The project will start in mid July. The only thing left now is for the supplier to be employed. My advice is people must pay the money for water and sewerage as the letters they received, stipulate.

“All the people whose shacks have been marked by municipal paint, will get houses. People must stop listening to rumours. If you want to know something, ask me,” said Mbubu.

Another issue on the agenda was the leaking roofs in Thembani and Langabuya where the councillor told people that there have been meetings about the problem.

“I am hoping that the problem of leaking roofs will be solved as soon as possible,” he added.

The councillor also told the people that there was an amount of R24000 left from the drivers’ licences project of Ward 16. The meeting decided that the money should be spent on groceries by the end of June.

The ward committee and NGO’s were tasked to make sure that the most needy people get the groceries.

Nomsa Mdunuse from Thembani emphasised the importance of paying the money for water connections before construction starts.

“I have seen in other projects that when you do not pay the money it delays the housing construction. My advice to people who get houses in the Drommedaris project is to pay the money oncde they receive letters of confirmation.
