FOR outstanding contribution to the struggle against Apartheid and the development of the labour movement particularly among farmworkers.

This citation written in 2002 when ‘Nanna’ Liz Abrahams received South Africa’s Order of the Counsellor of the Baobab in bronze, captures her illustrious life story.

Now her story is told in ‘Married to the Struggle, her life story. The book is edited by Yusuf Patel and Philip Hirschsohn.

‘Nana’ Liz Abrahams is an icon of the struggle for labour, women’s and political rights in South Africa. Her illustrious career as an activist has stretched over more than sixty years and the book’s release coincided with her 80th birthday.

The book is published by the University of the Western Cape in association with Diana Ferrus Publishers and sells for R30.

It is available at Essop’s Supermarket in Klein Drakenstein Road and Die Boekhoekie in Lady Grey Street.
