Retired teacher dies

A WELL-KNOWN retired Paarl teacher, Susan Thuynsma (84), died in Johannesburg last Wednesday.
Thuynsma (née Carolissen) was born in Paarl on 4 February 1922, and was one of five sisters.
She taught English and Domestic Science at a number of institutions including Berg River Secondary, New Orleans Secondary and Klein Nederburg Secondary and Athlone College. She worked as far afield as Zambia.
Her husband, Norman died in a car accident in 1962.
Thuynsma lived at 28 Gledholdt Street, Charleston Hill, next to her nieces, Desiré (Dilshaad) Jansen and Irene America until December last year.
They looked after her for the past 15 years.
In December she moved to an old age home in Johannesburg, near to her only child, Peter, and his family.
A cremation service was held in Johannesburg.
