Sister mayors
2006-06-15
THE Cape Winelands District Municipality’s council has taken a unanimous decision to appoint Councillor Chrissie Brink as acting Mayor from 7 June to 28 June.
This is because executive mayor Clarence Johnson and deputy executive mayor Arrie Krots will be out of the country during this time.
Brink, who lives in Paarl, is a sister of Paarl mayor Charmaine Manuel. She is currently a District Mayoral Committee member responsible for Community and Developmental Services.
Councillor Brink’s mayorship will bring to five out of six the number of women mayors within the Cape Winelands in this period.
The District already has women mayors in the persons of Manuel (Drakenstein), Linda Sibeko (Breede Valley), Lauretta Maree (Stellenbosch) and Katrien Robyn (Witzenberg). The only non-female mayor in this period will be John Ngonyama of Breede River Winelands.
