Teacher to travel
2006-06-22
A TEACHER from Berg River Secondary in Wellington, Anthea Bailey, has been selected by Statistics South Africa to accompany their delegation of mathematics teachers to attend the 7th International Conference on the Teaching of Statistics (ICOTS-7) which will be held in Salvadore, Brazil, from 2 to 8 July.
“I’m excited and eager and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to return and do some ploughing back!”, is the enthusiastic comment from this energetic young woman.
“This is timely, as a statistics component now forms part of the maths learning area in grade 10.
“Taking part in the maths4stats competition in April this year, I never imagined I would be chosen to form part of the delegation.”
The competition formed part of a series of activities to enhance statistical development of mathematics education as an important bedrock for statistics.
A total of 26 teachers were selected nationally and she is one of four from the Western Cape.
