RIPPLES, a non-profit organisation funded by the Wellington Wine Producers Educational Trust, once again embarked on their awareness campaign amongst the community of Wellington and surrounding areas of the effects that Fetal Alcohol Syndrome has on our children and the community.
This year an art competition that involved all the schools in the area was held.
The art competition comprised of four categories and the children could decide in which category they would like to participate.
Prizes were awarded in each category and the school with the most entries (Pauw Gedenk) won a cash amount of R1000 that will go towards funding the school’s operations.
‘”The response we received from all the schools was overwhelming with entries streaming in at the office days before the cut-off date,” says Annelize Stroebel, Marketing Manager at Wellington Wine & Tourism.
Due to the overwhelming response and quality of work, Ripples decided to showcase the children’s work at Paarl Mall until 9 September.
Rubin Adams, school psychologist and chairman of Ripples said: ‘We need to start making the community aware of the damaging impact alcohol can have on our unborn children.
“Only an informed community can help us in our drive to ensure that our children can grow up healthy and reach their potential”.
