Free roadworthy inspections

Free roadworthy inspections

2006-12-07

TRAFFIC departments will be out in full force on the roads during the holiday season.

More than 14 000 people died country-wide last year in road fatalities.

A spokesperson of the traffic department said that road blocks will be held to address speed and drunken driving and to check the roadworthiness of vehicles and traffic will also be closely monitored for any driving offences.

Strict action will be taken to ensure that especially public transport vehicles such as taxis and buses are roadworthy and abide by the rules of the road.

Motorists of the Drakenstein area are invited for free roadworthy inspections at the Daljosaphat test centre before departing for holiday destinations.

These inspections will take place from 11 to 21 December, Mondays to Fridays, between 16:00 and 18:00. No roadworthy certificates will be issued at these times.

From 23 December until 2 January the traffic department will not be able to issue vehicle and drivers' licences or roadworthy certificates due to the upgrading of their network.
